Five best spots to surf in Los Angeles

Surfing in Los Angeles is a popular activity enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike. While there are dozens of great surf spots located throughout L.A. county, I’ve composed a list of what I believe to be are the top five.

1.   El Porto – Located in Manhattan Beach, this place is ideal for individuals that are just beginning to surf.  If you are new to surfing, consider taking surf lessons in Manhattan Beach since you will not only learn the techniques of surfing, you will also be fully enthralled in the surfing lifestyle.

2.    Zuma – To the north of Mailbu is Zuma Beach, which offers perfect waves for both beginning and advanced surfers. The water can get pretty cold during the winter season so it’s best to wear a wetsuit during these months. A little fun fact: Zuma beach is where they filmed the hit TV show, Baywatch!

3.     Venice Beach – Probably one of the most popular beaches in L.A. is Venice Beach. Not only can you find great waves here, you can enjoy the beautiful boardwalk, go rollerblading, or ride a bike. This is a major tourist spot so expect a bit of a crowd in the ocean.

4.     Topanga Point – Its rocky and sandy terrain makes this spot popular among experienced surfers. Expect to see consistent, sizeable waves throughout the year.

5.     Hermosa Beach – Perhaps one of Los Angeles’ trendiest beaches is Hermosa Beach. This place offers some of the best waves year around. The water can get colder than what is normally expected in California, so make sure to wear a wetsuit during the fall and winter seasons.
